Carol Gijima is a Registered Nurse with over a decade of experience serving vulnerable and underserved populations. She brings a diverse background in community psychiatric and mental health nursing, long-term care, regulatory compliance, and healthcare leadership. Carol is deeply committed to health equity, capacity building, and advancing culturally responsive, holistic care.
Her work focuses on improving patient safety, empowering healthcare teams through education, and advocating for mental health and social justice. Passionate about service, Carol is honored to support Mission Africa’s mission of uplifting communities through education, health, and empowerment.
Outside of work, Carol actively volunteers with the Neighborhood Clinic in Tacoma and participates in the lobbying efforts of the Washington State Nurses Association. She enjoys traveling and experiencing diverse cultures around the world.
Education:
Carol holds a Master’s degree in Nursing Leadership and Management and a Bachelor’s in Accounting. She is pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practice, aiming to serve immigrant, Native American, and incarcerated populations.
